Day 51 : Why am I working in Allopathic hospital being an Ayurvedic doctor?

Monday 21/11/22 Dcosta Mansion, C.S.Road, Kundapura

I didn't go to hospital today as I took leave.
Today I'm going to talk about why am I working in a Allopathic hospital being an Ayurvedic doctor.
  1.  I didn't have practical exposure in Ayurveda during my UG days. So when I joined allopathic hospital, the patient flow was immense. This helped me to learn lot of things very quickly.
  2. It's very hard to find a job in the field of Ayurveda, and even if you get one the pay is very less or there is no pay. You have to work for free. The pay at Allopathic hospitals are atleast manageable.
  3. There are very few cases in ayurvedic hospitals and we don't get exposed to different cases.
  4. The use of modern technologies in Diagnosis is less in  Ayurveda. In Allopathic hospitals,we get to learn lot of new and updated concepts to diagnose a disease and treat them accordingly . Sometimes due to our wrong diagnosis the patient might lose his life.
  5. There is no scientific explanation for the treatments we give. It's very hard to explain patients about thier treatments.
  6. There is no flexibility in jobs in Ayurvedic hospitals as there are very few doctors we need to stay if a patient comes while we are leaving.
  7. I wanted to know how to treat patients during emergencies. There are very few ayurvedic treatments effective during an emergency.
  8. There is no specific treatment in ayurveda. We have to curate a new treatment for almost every new patient.
  9. The medicines Ayurvedic doctors prescribe are available in the pharmacies without any prescription. Since it is considered that ayurvedic medicines have no side effects people buy these medicines themselves. So once you prescribe something to a patient he will take it lifetime and also suggests it to his friends and family.
  10. There is very less money involved in Ayurveda unless you turn it into a Wellness spa. Only these type of resorts make money while most of them have to struggle in life. It will take a lot of time to get established as an highly skilled Ayurvedic doctor.

First point to note is I studied in a college where patient exposure was very less close to zero. During my 5 years of journey in my college we were only taught in class and practically had no exposure to patients. Due to this lacuna I had no interest in Ayurveda and I've had not seen patients getting cured in front of my eyes. Even the theoretical concepts in ayurveda seemed so unscientific that it had no connection from Physics and Chemistry from my school days. It was like learning everything from 1st STD again in an ancient way. Ayurveda has its own chemistry, physics and biology. These things didn't resonate with me. All these years I wanted to run from this course. Even the teachers and lecturers in our college didn't look inspiring as if they loved their jobs. Even after studying for somany years they looked like they still struggled in life.
Considering all these things I had zero interest in ayurveda, But if someone was there to me to explain these concepts scientifically and show results practically then I would have followed Ayurveda. Because I always love to do different things and if Ayurveda made sense to me then I would have put all my efforts to excel in it. There is still some time left to explore. Lets wait and see what will I become in the future.
